Ford Registers A Massive 220% Sales Jump In Aug 2010

The Indian unit of US based Ford Motors has registered a more than three fold increase in its sales in the month of August 2010, in the Indian market. The company managed to sell a total of 7,925 units of its cars in the country during this month, accounting a 220 percent increase as compared to the sales of the same period last year. In the period of Jan- Aug 2010, the company has sold a total of 54,676 units of its cars in the country, registering a 195 percent increase as against the sales of the same period last year.

The compact hatchback Ford Figo, that was introduced in the Indian market in March 2010, remained the best selling model in the company’s India portfolio. So far, the company has managed to receive more than 34,000 bookings for this car in the Indian market. Besides its huge success in the Indian market, the Figo model has a robust demand in market overseas. The company had dispatched the first-ever shipment of its inbuilt Figo models to South Africa in May 2010. In addition to this, the company will also be exporting its volume driving Figo model to the 50 new markets from the year 2011. These markets include Mexico, North Africa and the Middle East.

According to a statement given by Mr Michael Boneham, Ford Indias president and managing director, in the company’s sales release, the Figo phenomenon continues, and in addition to strong sales in India, the company is excited about the opportunity to export this success to other markets around the world. He also added that the recent shipment to South Africa and more markets around the world next year adds a new international chapter to the Figo’s success story.

The company currently has a wast dealer network of 167 dealerships spread across 97 cities of the country.
